Board and Committees

The IFA is governed by a board of trustees with a breadth of knowledge and experience who direct and manage how the charity is run.

The board of trustees are supported by numerous committees and specialist advisors* who act as consultants to the Federation in their specialist field. All directors and committee members have clear terms of reference. The IFA currently has the following committees:

  • Research Committee

Each trustee and committee member declare their personal interests to the IFA to enable us to effectively manage any identified conflicts.

We are dedicated to protecting the public by regulating, fairly, consistently, transparently and proportionately.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The trustee's role as a collective is to set the charity’s strategic direction, uphold its values and guide, advise and support the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who leads the team towards achieving the charity’s objects. Each trustee, heads or is part of a subcommittee with clearly defined aims and reports back the activities of the committee to the board of trustees to inform their decision-making processes. 

Salvatore Battaglia

MEET SALVATORE

Salvatore has been passionate about natural therapies for most of his life. He has qualifications in herbal medicine, natural therapies, acupuncture and aromatherapy. His dedication to aromatherapy has seen him hold many positions in professional associations and government committees to ensure that the educational standards of professional aromatherapy in Australia are maintained and improved. Salvatore has been an advisor to hospital boards and nursing homes to establish aromatherapy clinical trials for pain management, intensive care and depression and for the management of dementia and aged care.

Desmond O'Neil

MEET DESMOND

Desmond is a well-qualified professional in international business and education. Desmond graduated with a 2nd class BA from the University of Hull in European studies going on to do a postgraduates in international marketing at the University of Buckingham. Desmond began his career working in multiple different fields entailing Perfumery, Housewares and Natural Healthcare when he then decided in 2004 to pursue a second postgraduates honour in Education. Desmond worked as a teacher of French, Spanish, English and Business Studies beginning his career working in Hampshire, South East England between 2005-2010 and then reverted to teaching online at the British E-School (2007-2022) which coincided alongside his own individual teaching platform as an online teacher of Foreign languages (2007-present). Desmond venture into aromatherapy began in 2010 where he established himself as a school administrator at an aromatherapy school in Brazil alongside his wife.

Josie Donaldson (Chair)

MEET JOSIE

Josie qualified in 1992 at the London School of Aromatherapy, and successfully set up and run her own clinic ever since. She is also a fully qualified Kinesiologist, Counsellor and Nutritionist. She has worked within the NHS - with Cerebral Palsy, MS and head injured patients within several hospitals. Having researched biochemicals and oils when working at the Head Injury Unit at the local cottage hospital this research was utilise with great success. She ran her own college in Morpeth and has experience in teaching, lecturing, staff management, quality assurance and has been an international examiner.

Rui Parkinson

MEET RUI

Rui qualified as an aromatherapist in 2004. After qualifying she used her skills predominately for her own self-care and the care of her family with a small client base. Previously she has worked in perfumery and handmade cosmetic companies in sales and as a team coordinator, as well being a part time teaching assistant. Since the pandemic and its wide-reaching affects, it became clear to Rui that aromatherapy was needed to enhance and balance the psychological and physical wellbeing of clients and has since created her own a bespoke aromatherapy service. Rui is Japanese and wants to support our Japanese members and assist with new projects in Japan.

Catherine Jacobs

MEET CATHERINE

Catherine qualified as an aromatherapist in 2004 previously obtaining a SVQ3 in Health & Social Care and a BA in Communication Studies. Prior to becoming an Aromatherapist she worked in the music business for 10 years in PR, promotions and management, developing two businesses.  She has practiced as an Aromatherapist for 18 years and with a busy clinical practice working with people of all ages, backgrounds, young and old alike. During lockdown she delivered an online zoom session to the staff at the NHS as part of their Well-Being Day. She is also a workshop facilitator for VOCAL, the carers charity and part of a new project for the charity ‘What? Why? Children In Hospital’ to deliver aromatherapy sessions to parents of children with disabilities who are in hospital. I have worked as part of the complementary therapy team for the charity Saheliya, a Scottish mental health charity specifically for vulnerable ethic women.

Jon Tay

MEET JON

Jon qualified as an aromatherapist in 1998 at the Joanna Hoare Institute of Aromatherapy. He is an international aromatherapist, spa and wellness advisor; consultant; educator with background in psychology, aromatherapy, spa management and complementary therapies. With vast experience in the spa and wellness industry, Jon inspires collaboration within the industry; namely he has collaborated with Spa and Wellness Association Singapore (SWAS), Asia Pacific Spa & Wellness Coalition (APSWC), Asia Spa & Wellness Promotion Council (ASWPC). In Singapore he had been appointed Lifeskills & Lifestyle Star Trainer by the People’s Association (Singapore). Since 2004 he has designed workshops and seminars to educate the public, which is has delivered locally as well as in surrounding countries. He has worked with farmers and distillers and also organised study tours to such places.

Norlisa Lee-Abdullah

MEET NORLISA

Norlisa qualified in Aromatherapy in 1998 at the Joanna Hoare Institute of Aromatherapy. She has additional qualifications in beauty, naturopathy and reflexology with CIBTAC, CIDESCO and ITEC and qualification in lymphatic drainage. She has a Bachelor in Management from the Open University in Malaysia and Bachelor of Science in Sports Science with Honors. She has a Diploma in Teaching and has taught ITEC courses in Malaysia for the International Therapy Examination Council Ltd. She has a Vocational Trainer Certificate Level 4 and Level 5 in Management. She has broad experience in training, management and internal and external quality assurance processes.

Kyoko Wood

MEET KYOKO

Kyoko qualified in 2003 with Vivat Holistic Training School in Tokyo. In 2003 she came to the UK for additional training in reflexology, reiki and M technique before moving to Germany and Switzerland, where she worked as a self-employed massage therapist and infant massage instructor from 2004 to 2006. When Kyoko returned to Japan in 2007, she had the opportunity to work as an aromatherapist and infant massage instructor at an acupuncture clinic and paediatric clinic in Hakodate from 2007 to 2010. Since returning to the UK in 2011 she has been exploring her direction as a complementary therapist. In 2015 she volunteered at Longfield Hospice in the Cotswold, which inspired her to pursue a career in palliative care as a complementary therapist. Currently she is enrolled in the diploma course ITTU at the Christie NHS Foundation providing a unique perspective on the needs of patients with cancer. As an aromatherapist and Japanese language speaker, she intends to use her skills to contribute to the growth and development of IFA organisations in Japan and also other Asian countries.

COMMITTEES

The IFA carries out much of its business through committees. Committees aim to direct the charity’s work and support the board of trustees in fulfilling its role. The board of trustees decides the terms of the constitution, membership criteria and terms of reference of all committees, and reviews these annually. The committee members are drawn from a wide range of field professionals, specialist advisors and members with relevant experience. 

Education and Quality Assurance Committee

The aim of the committee is to review and develop the IFA’s curriculum and oversee that the quality assurance of the IFA’s academic provision remain robust and effective. The curriculum development committee critically review the IFA’s curriculum content, whilst the quality assurance committee review standards for registration. 

Rachel Fairweather

MEET RACHEL

Rachel has 25 years experience in the industry working as an advanced therapist and trainer, in New York, Europe and throughout the UK. Rachel is co-author of the book “Massage Fusion: The Jing Method for the treatment of chronic pain” which has reached the number one best sellers spot in the Physiotherapy category of Amazon UK. She writes regularly for several professional trade magazines. She has twice received the CAM Expo award for outstanding achievement in her field. Rachel has trained extensively in Eastern and Western bodywork including medical massage, craniosacral, myofascial, structural integration (KMI) trigger point therapy, Thai massage, Amma therapy, Sports massage, visceral manipulation, and neuromuscular techniques. Rachel also holds a degree in Psychology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work and an Associates degree in Massage Therapy.

Marie Hackman

MEET MARIE

Marie qualified as an aromatherapist back in 1993. Two years later she started working full time in her own Clinic and has been doing so ever since. In 2003 she attained a teaching qualification with City and Guilds and then taught aromatherapy massage part-time for South East Derbyshire College of Further Education. In an endeavour to increase her own knowledge of Aromatherapy, she qualified in 2010 as an Aromatologist and attended further courses in Aromatic Botany at Kew Gardens, Aromatic Chemistry, the Benefits of Hydrolats, Aromatherapy for Arthritis and Pain Management. In addition, Marie also worked on improving her massage skills by undertaking two advanced massage courses. Her particular interest is the potential of essential oils to manage / eradicate infections, especially now that antibiotics are declining in their efficacy. Additionally, as an aromatherapist of over twenty years, she still retains a huge interest in pain management, since it is the mainstay of her work in the Clinic and another area of great research potential.

Dinesh Kotecha

MEET DINESH

Dinesh trained directly at Aromatherapy Associates in 1998 under Madame Micheline Arcier. His main interests are in the fields of medical massage, aromatherapy, natural skin care, training and education. Dinesh served on the IFA Council for three years and served as its Chairman from 2010 to 2012. As a teacher and exam examiner, he has held workshops and given lectures in the UK and abroad. He has also been a member of the CNHC Professional Specific Board (PSB) for aromatherapy.

Anne Murray

MEET ANNE

 

Ann qualified in aromatherapy in 1985 and became principal tutor and operations manager of Champneys College of Health and Beauty up until 1992. Since then she has acted as examiner for in-house training courses and national examiner for CIDESCO and the IFA. She is a self-employed aromatherapist and consultant for brands such as Aromatherapy Associates and created bespoke perfumes for corporate and individual clients. She has trained therapists in the UK and internationally in aromatherapy and Mindfulness Meditation. Ann’s additional complementary health qualifications include Reflexology, Bowen Technique, Reiki, EFT Meridian Therapy as well as Resilience Coach training and teaching qualifications.

Jeannie Sim

MEET JEANNIE

Jeannie qualified in aromatherapy in 1996 and became General Manager and principal tutor of Top to Toe College Pte Ltd where she was involved in recruiting and training staff. She assisted in setting up and managing the Swiss Renaissance, Sheraton Towers Hotel and Singapore Marriott Hotel spas. She has been an examiner for ITEC and CIDESCO since 2008. In 2009 she became a WSQ Curriculum Validation Team Member and SSI Examination Assessor and is an Academic Advisory Committee Member for the Institute of Technical Education, Singapore and in 2012 became Deputy Chief Expert of the Beauty Therapy World Skills Committee.

Lindsay Woodman

MEET LINDSAY

Lindsay qualified in aromatherapy at the London School of Aromatherapy with honours in 1996. Lindsay is a practicing aromatherapist and educator with experience in examining. She specialises in aromatherapy for pregnancy and childbirth and has experienced in palliative care through working within Hospice care. She has also set up a natural body products business and have been teaching aromatherapy since 1998, with Coleg Harlech (Welsh) adult education college (CHWEA), teaching Open College Network accredited courses to OCN  level 3 (A level standard). She has a teacher qualification, perfumery qualification and is a Reiki Master and teacher and runs several workshops.

Gill Farrer-Halls

MEET GILL

Gill has over 30 years’ experience in the field of aromatherapy, teaching and examining. She was a principal teacher at The London School of Aromatherapy 1989 – 1998 where she oversaw the day-to-day operation of qualification delivery and assessment. In 2005 Gill served on the IFA CPD committee. She is a professional writer, literary consultant and author and published 20 books internationally. She holds aromatherapy workshops as well consultancy for blending products. Previously she has worked as a laboratory assistant, been a guest lecturer in Japan as well as partaken in charity work for CARA (Care & Resources for People with Aids).

Jane Hickson

MEET JANE

Jane qualified as an Aromatherapist with the London School of Aromatherapy in 1990. Since then she has been working as a therapist and teaches beginner and advanced courses to diploma level. Having home educated her own son up to the age of 16 to IGCSE level (International GCSE) in Biology and other subjects she is very familiar with the process of mapping study content with learning outcomes and quality assurance processes. She has a teachers qualification and been an examiner since 2005. She has coordinated workshops for home educating families for 8 years, managing facilitators and coordinating teams of helpers.

Stephanie Lord

MEET STEPHANIE

Stephanie trained as a primary school teacher in the 1960's, moved into special education and then went on to become head teacher of several specialist schools for children with autism. In 1994 she qualified as an Aromatherapist and in 2008 honed her skills and experience to create the Aromatouch course for the IFA, which was registered with LANTRA the same year. She developed this aspect of her work into the CARIS programme which is being delivered in care homes in the UK. She has written extensively about autism and Aromatouch and had 2 books published about her work in education.

Nicole Perez

MEET NICOLE

Nicole is an aromatherapist and educator since 1986. She has extensive experience teaching complementary therapies and has studied spiritual healing both privately and with the CPS and NFSH and been on various alternative medicine/therapy training workshops and courses including astrology, radiestesia, plant essences, shiatsu and bodywork, reflexology, aromatherapy and other related therapies. She has served on the IFA’s Council numerous times as Head of Education and both steered, modernised and developed its curriculum and expanding learning programmes. She has written a number of articles and a book on related topics and lectured, taught and examined in the UK and overseas.

Denise Tiran*

MEET DENISE

Denise Tiran MSc RM RGN ADM PGCEA, a practising midwife, university lecturer, complementary practitioner and author, is an internationally-renowned authority on maternity complementary medicine. She is founder and Educational Director for Expectancy, an advice, information and educational consultancy on the safe use of complementary therapies in pregnancy and childbirth. Previously, as Principal Lecturer at the University of Greenwich, London, Denise developed one of the UK's first practice-based degree programmes on complementary medicine. Her research activities have included an exploration of complementary therapies for nausea and vomiting in pregnancy; a study investigating the potential of reflexology to predict stages of the menstrual cycle; and a Department of Health-funded project investigating continuing professional development amongst complementary medicine practitioners.

Martyn Yates

MEET MARTYN

Martyn qualified as an aromatherapist in 1986 and joined the IFA in 1987. Martyn has a wealth of experience having worked in education for over 50 years and the therapy business for over 35 years. He has worked at various institutions lecturing and training and has qualifications in advanced reflexology and been an examiner for the Association of Reflexologists and lecturer for Maidstone College of Osteopathy. Martyn has worked in various hospices and is the founding chairman of the National Association of Complementary Therapists in hospice and palliative care. Since 1988 to the present day he has worked for Pilgrims Hospice in Canterbury as Lead Complementary Therapist and Lecturer. Since 2013 he was responsible for the spiritual care of the hospice as a non-religious spiritual care Lead. As well as running his own complementary therapy business, in 1989 he launched the Canterbury School of Natural Therapies to offer practitioners HE level training. Martyn has also served on the IFA Council for a number of years during the 1990s.

Dr Marilyn Glenville

MEET MARILYN

Marilyn has a PhD in nutrition and is a leading UK nutritionist specialising in women’s health. She is the Former President of the Food and Health Forum at the Royal Society of Medicine. With 35 years’ experience she specialises in the nutritional approach to female hormone problems, working with women who suffer from PMS, fibroids, PCOS, endometriosis and also fertility problems. She also helps women looking for nutritional help around the menopause and for prevention of osteoporosis. She is the author of 14 internationally best-selling books including ‘The Nutritional Health Handbook for Women’ and runs clinics in Harley Street, Kent and Ireland.

Jane Johnson*

MEET JANE

Jane is a chartered physiotherapist and former massage therapist, with a passion for helping health and fitness professionals understand common assessment and treatment methods. She is the author of Soft Tissue Release (2009), Deep Tissue Massage (2010), Postural Assessment (2012), Therapeutic Stretching (2012), Postural Correction (2015) and The Big Back Book: Tips & Tricks for Therapists (2016). She is an Expert Witness for cases involving soft tissue therapies and physiotherapy. She has also worked and lectured as a specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapist in the field of occupational health, advising employees and employers about how to avoid and manage musculoskeletal conditions.

Dame & Dr Irene Loudon

MEET IRENE

Irene graduated as a consultant trichologist from the Institute of Trichologists in London and qualified in the disciplines of Cymatics and Bio-sonic Therapeutics, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy and Counselling. She also obtained a Doctorate in Cymatic and Bio-energetic Medicine and an MD(MA) from the Open International University for Complementary Medicines. Following the great loss of her very special friend and partner, Dr Robert Ross Gibson in 1994, she added to her armamentarium the disciplines of Allergy and Environmental Therapy, Kinesiology, Phytotherapy and Meridian Energy Techniques. For her contribution to scientific advancement and its benefits for humanity, she has been conferred both an honorary Doctorate of Science by the Open International University for Complementary Medicines and Life Membership of Medicina Alternativa Institute. For service to humanity she has been awarded Order of Excellence by the World Organisation of Natural Medicine and bestowed the title of Dame by the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitallers. She is also a member of the Royal Institute of Public Health.

Alison Savage

MEET ALISON

Alison qualified as an aromatherapist in 2018 from Rosewood Aromatherapy College. She also has various other complementary health qualifications including a Centralia Reflexology Mastership (Level 5), Reiki Levels 1-3, Rose Quartz Facial Massage Practitioner Diploma, Zen Hot & Cold Massage Therapy Practitioner Diploma and Instructor for Babies and Children and is a GT Reflexology Practitioner. She has attended various other continual professional development courses such as Hot Stone Reflexology, and Indian Head Massage. She is currently undertaking the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (previously called PTLLS) via City & Guilds. She has as wealth of experience in administration and health and safety and experienced in compiling risk assessments and other important documentation. Currently, she runs her own business and is an instructor and workshop provider running short courses for parents/carers. Having run workshops for the Ashfield Voluntary Association for people with mental health issues, worked for Womens Aid, Ashfield District Council, Ashfield NHS Homes etc.

Doreen Uzice

MEET DOREEN

Doreen qualified in aromatherapy in 1993. Before then she had a career in management training and development. Since then she has trained in Indian head massage, Sports Injuries, Reiki, Acupressure, Thai yoga massage, NLP and teacher training. Having co-founded Quantum Metta School of Massage in 2003 she now spends her time teaching and facilitates workshops in personal development, business skills and stress management. In 2006 she became an examiner and served on the IFA Council for four years, the last two of which she was Chair of Education having previously served on the Education Committee for the MTI (Massage Training Institute).

Jennifer Young*

MEET JENNIFER

Jennifer Young is the founder of Beauty Despite Cancer as well as a pioneer in the care of those affected by cancer and women experiencing a natural menopause. Jennifer Young has a BSc (Hons) in Biology and is an experienced microbiologist, is a nutritional therapist, an associate member of the Royal Society of Medicine, a qualified aromatherapist, acupuncturist, beauty therapist and product formulator. She has two post-graduate qualifications in health-related fields, has been accepted by the Courts as an expert witness for occupational health cases, has taught internationally and has been active in medical research.

Heather Godfrey

MEET HEATHER

Heather has over 40 years’ experience and worked for Robert Tisserand in the 70’s. In addition to her aromatherapy qualifications, she has a BSc (Joint Hon) Degree in Counselling and Complementary Medicine, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and Post Graduate Masters Certificates in Professional Counselling Supervision & Therapeutic Relationships. She runs her own business, providing treatments, training and Professional Practitioners Support Forum (PPSF). She was Programme Lead for the BSc Integrated Therapy in Practice Top up Degree, and Module Lead for the Aromatherapy and Supervision & CPD modules at the University of Salford, Manchester (School of Social Work, Psychology and Public Health).

Margaret Karlinska

MEET MARGARET

Margaret has experience working within the education sector since 1990. Firstly as a private high school teacher and then as a further education lecturer and examiner, specialising in Science, aromatherapy and other complementary therapies as well as organic skincare development.She has a Master’s Degree in Science and Education from the Chemistry Department of the University of Warsaw, where she prepared students for university entry exams and revamped the 4-year teaching programme and quality assurance processes which was approved by the Polish Ministry of Education. Whilst serving on the IFA she co-developed the IFA’s curriculum programme and has lectured for a number of Complementary Medicine Schools.

Susan Mousley

MEET SUSAN

Sue has worked within the NHS as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) and midwife for over 30 years. She qualified in aromatherapy 1996 and established an aromatherapy service in the Maternity Unit of the George Elliot Hospital, which won the Prince of Wales Foundation for Integrated Health ‘Good Practice Award’ presented by Prince Charles. She jointly owns a training company instructing in First Aid and delivers workshops internationally. She has an Award in Education and Training (AET) and Award in Externally Assessing the Quality of Assessment Processes and Practice (EQA) Level 4. In 2005 she won the Madame Maury Aromatherapist of the Year Award.

Amanda Mee-Shipman

MEET AMANDA

Amanda is a headteacher with outstanding gradings from OFSTED. She has been a teacher in the education framework for more than 20 years. She has a Bachelor of Education Honours degree from the University of Derbyshire BEd Hons and National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). She has undertaken a certificate in performance coaching (education). She has also run courses for Derbyshire LEA on ICT, outdoor learning, mixed age classes and phonics.  She has travelled to Uganda, Sweden, Croatia and Turkey funded by the British Council to spend time studying the Education system in these countries and developed this in her practice.

Bradley Whale

MEET BRADLEY

Bradley is a registered member of the GOSC (General Osteopathic Council) and BOA (British Osteopathic Association). He has a Post Graduate Diploma in Equine Osteopathy, Bachelor of Osteopathy and is a Qualified Sports Massage Therapist. After qualifying from the British School of Osteopathy in 2005 he embarked upon an intensive period of personal study. Studying cranial sacral, chiropractic, physiotherapy, acupuncture and Bowen therapy. He has worked with leading gynaecologists in the UK as well as orthopaedic surgeons helping to improve recovery from back surgery. His areas of specialization include: pregnancy, sports injuries and animals. He is also a lecturer and published author.

Disciplinary & Sanctions Committee

The aim of the committee is to investigate complaints about alleged breaches of IFA regulations and impose sanctions where necessary for the protection of the public.

Claire Bennett

MEET CLAIRE

Claire has been is a solicitor for more than 20 years. She is a Senior Associate in the Plots and Management team acting for a variety of national, regional and local residential and commercial property developers, acting for social housing providers and dealing with residential and commercial leasehold management and commercial investment work. Her particular area of expertise is in property law but also specialises in tailoring client reporting systems and drafting complex legal documentation.

Clare Ella 

MEET CLARE

Clare started her career as a lawyer before running her own successful aromatherapy and complementary medicine business, which she founded in 2013. She completed a Diploma in Holistic Aromatherapy from Tisserand Institute London in 2001 and has a Diploma in Reflexology at VTCT Level 3 in 2017, and is also a Master in Reiki Healing. Clare worked on the VSO project and taught English to Chinese teacher trainees for two years. She also spent two years working with organic farmers, processors and complementary medicine practitioners in New Zealand. Clare also lived in Johannesburg and set up the charity's new office and management system for the families and carers of people living with HIV/AIDS.

Peter Nathan

MEET PETER

BA Hons, PGCE, MA, MBA, RSA Dip. Peter Nathan is currently Director of Education for Enfield Council, a position he has held for the past four and a half years. He is responsible for a wide range of services for the 97 schools in the borough as well as for early years provision, post 16, special needs, school admissions, school place planning, behaviour support and a range of other statutory services. He is also the lead for special needs across London representing the 32 London local authorities in a strategic role with the Department for Education. He held a similar position for 5 years in the Borough of Swindon between 2014-2019. Peter has had a wide ranging and varied career. He was an Ofsted school’s inspector for 20 years leading inspections and being a team member. He taught for 15 years both overseas and in England before taking on senior management responsibilities in local authorities. He worked as an independent consultant for a further 8 years taking on a wide range of roles. These included being Head of Equalities in Tower Hamlets, delivering training at the Institute of Education on a regular basis, providing in-service training at over 200 schools and in local authority settings. He led a nationwide inclusion project over 3 years for the Specialist Schools Trust which led to a number of publications on inclusive practice in education.

Kelly Sheppard

MEET KELLY

Kelly is a Professionally Registered Adult Nurse with 11 years’ experience. Currently working at A Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) which is a dedicated service co-commissioned by the police and NHS Health & Justice Commissioners to improve the care offered to victims of sexual assault. She specialises as a Forensic Nurse Examiner (registered member of UKAFN) and is responsible for providing on-call examination services for adults and young people. This includes: providing telephone information and support for police, support workers and service users; undertaking a forensic examination where appropriate for police and self-referrals, documenting injuries, forensic exhibits and providing medical care, mental health and suicide risk assessment, safeguarding, accurately documenting findings and ensuring appropriate information sharing is enabled. Providing a service which supports clients through the complexities of the criminal justice process and facilitates access to other healthcare services and provide appropriate information on follow up services that the service user may find useful in a sensitive and non-judgemental way, enabling the service user to regain control and self-esteem. Kelly has a Bachelor of Science with Honours: Health Care Studies, Bachelor of Science: Diploma in Adult Nursing and GNVQ in Health and Social Care. Previously she has managed an acute stroke ward.

Jitender has 10 years’ experience in financial and management accounting. He has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), specialising in financial management. He has a Bachelor of Science (Honours) with a Diploma in Information Technology for applied accounting. He is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (London School of Business and Finance England). Previously he was a Senior Accountant at Lordship Commercial  Services, Chartered certified Accountants & Auditors where he led the team and prepared accounts, managed budgets and forecasts, risk management and was integral in business development.

Lauren is a fully qualified, experienced Human Resources professional with a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management and Chartered CIPD Membership. Broad HR generalist experience with over 15 years’ experience with additional focus on specific areas such as business partnering, employee relations, training and development. She has worked at Canterbury Christ Church University, Saga Group Ltd, Demelza Hospice Care for Children, Pilgrims Hospices as a Seniour HR Specialist, lecturer and advisor and currently works at Cummins as a Master Investigator. She is proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and HR programs such as OneSource, I-Grasp, Sage Payroll & HRWorks, as well as other bespoke software.

She is currently a Business Owner within Teresa Marie Ltd runs her own business and prior to that was an accountant, office manager and an accounts supervisor at Bowmer & Kirkland Ltd.

Sarah Pykett

MEET SARAH

Sarah has over 20 years’ experience in finance and accounting. She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). She has a Diploma in Higher Education in Accounting (equivalent to ACCA Certificate Plus), NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration, RSA Level 2 and a City & Guilds level 3 - Education and Training qualification. Before becoming self-employed and starting her own company she worked for various companies such as Capita IT (BSF) Limited, Unidrug Distribution Group Ltd, Quadrant Security Group where she headed various teams, implemented various programmes to increase productivity and efficiency and managed the day-to-day accounting.

Susan Allock

MEET SUSAN

Susan has been a practitioner with over 24 years nursing experience - the last 8 within general practice. She is committed to delivering high standards of individualised care and has specialist knowledge and qualifications in managing chronic disease, health promotion and screening services. She has experience of managing services for a diverse socio-economic population. She has worked in Nottingham City Hospital as a Senior Staff Nurse in the critical care and High Dependency Unit, Junior Sister Renal Unit and has been a Staff Nurse in Acute Medicine and Adult Intensive Care.

Roger Kelly

MEET RODGER

Roger is an aromatherapist, remedial masseur and Reiki practitioner. He has been the co-ordinator of complementary therapies at Keech Hospice Care in Luton since 2008, which supports both adults and children with life-limiting conditions. He is passionate about aromatherapy being integrated as a holistic approach to healthcare alongside clinical interventions. He is always exploring new ways to support patients and their carers and has introduced a number of initiatives using essential oils. Roger is also the current clinical lead for the Mount Vernon Cancer Network and provides advice on the use of complementary therapies to clinical colleagues in the network.

As a clinic owner himself he understands the trials, tribulations and joys of owning and managing a successful business and the systems he teaches allow him to do this whilst touring the world. He provides seminars and consultations, with easy to implement, cost effective strategies that will make a dramatic and immediate difference to business’s profits and staff performance.

Kate Rourke 

MEET KATE

Kate completed a level 3 ITEC Aromatherapy diploma and Holistic Massage Diploma from Kingston College in 2003. Kate then attended an IFA school to upgrade her qualifications and went on to qualify in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Her love for essential oils and aromatherapy has developed since childhood, using essential oils with her mother who is a homeopath. In the world of aromatherapy, she has worked in both the public and private sector as a mobile therapist and was also involved in managing the Sanctuary's Spa franchise. Since 2004, she has been working freelance for Absolute Aromas, writing press releases, training, creating blends for their range, writing articles for health and wellness magazines and websites, and advising as an aromatherapist. Kate is a qualified yoga teacher and photographer for Getty Images (a photo and image agency) for 20 years.

Ray Gransby*

MEET RAY

Ray trained as a biologist and microbiologist. He has more than 40 years’ experience in the personal care, flavour and fragrance and essential oil industries holding a variety of quality, technical service, production and development roles at senior management and board level specialising in legislation and regulatory affairs on a worldwide basis. He has considerable experience of the science of essential oils and aromatherapy practice and was for several years a part-time lecturer in the chemistry of essential oils and the science of aromatherapy at Anglia Ruskin University. Ray is currently a consultant specialising in legislation and regulatory affairs.

Denise Spencer

MEET DENISE

Denise has worked on social awareness raising projects for Healthwatch; attending events to promote the work of the organisation, engaging with the community to listen to the views of users and compiling reports to bring about changes to services. She has also supported young adults on a local government scheme targeted at pupils with health and behavioural issues. She has volunteered in her local hospital for many years helping to organise pet, cookery and art therapy workshops for patients during rehabilitation. She also have experience of working with children in schools supporting their learning and assisting in Communications strategies for Relate, The Imperial War Museum, The Arts Society and the NCT.

Nicky Grant

MEET NICKY

 

Nicky is a graphic designer with over 20 years’ experience. A creative, versatile and enthusiastic professional with a wealth of knowledge with regards to colour management. Nicky has compiled the IFA’s Aromatherapy Times Magazine editions for more than 10 years. She has freelanced for numerous companies producing presentations, catalogues, exhibition panels, banners, brochures, flyers and posters for company stationery and Corporate Identity. She has also worked with signage and interior divisions creating visuals and has assisted in marketing campaigns. Clients included Churchill Insurance, Odeon Cinemas, Bank of America, Bullfrogs Clothing, Cosmos Holidays, Avro flights and Bexley Heritage Trust.

MEET PIERRE

Pierre is an Aromatologist, Pharmacologist and Director of Research into plant and aromatic extracts with more than 40 years’ experience. He is an expert adviser to an American laboratory. Founder of the 'International School of Aromatherapy' and author of the books: 'Aromatherapy Exactly' Ed R Jolois (1990), 'At the forefront of Aromatherapy' (Edition Guy Tredaniel) and editor of 'The Science of Aromatherapy'. Director of teaching and Chair of Herbal Medicine at the FLMNE (Free Faculty of Natural Medicine and Ethnoveterinary Studies). Former Head of Faculty of Herbal Medicine and Pharmaceutical studies in Besancon. Director of the Scientific Committee and Vice President of the International Solidarity Association of 'Barefoot Doctors'. President of the humanitarian association 'Aromatherapy without frontiers’.

Professor Tim Jacob

MEET TIM

Tim’s particular interest is accumulating scientific evidence for the physiological and psychological effects of phytochemicals and essential oils. He is currently head of the smell research laboratory at Cardiff University. He has collaborated with the Jinan University, Guangzhou, China to develop his research into the psychophysiology of smell. He has pioneered Kodobio Sensory Therapy which is evidence based and scientifically tested. His research and pioneering work has been published in various national research journals and newspapers including the Telegraph, BBC, the Guardian and Daily Mail to name a few. His areas of expertise include: Odour discrimination, Aromachology, Olfactory therapy, Cell Volume regulation and Cataract.

Dr Mark Moss

MEET MARK

Mark is head of the Department of Psychology at Northumbria University. He is responsible for the strategic direction of the Division and oversees staffing and budgeting for all programmes of study. Mark teaches on the second year undergraduate Psychobiology Sensation and Perception module, undergraduate and Masters level research methods modules, and a final year alcoholism option. Mark was a founding member of the Human Cognitive Neuroscience Unit (now the Brain Performance and Nutrition Research Centre) at Northumbria University. His main research interests relate to the modulation of cognitive function and mood through natural interventions, with a current focus on phyto-aromatics, having published various research papers in the field.

Professor Dr. Jürgen Reichling*

MEET JÜRGEN

Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Jürgen Reichling, lectures at the Institute of Pharmacy and Molecular Biotechnology, Dep. of Biology at the University of Heidelberg. From 1966 to 1971 he studied biology, chemistry and physics at the University of Heidelberg and in 1972 he received a doctorate in biology (Dr. rer. nat.). In 1973/74 he was a secondary school teacher and a civil service probationer, passing the second Civil Service examination in 1974. Since 1975 he has been a scientist at the University of Heidelberg (Pharmacy), in 1983 inauguration for the subject Pharmaceutical Biology, in 1991 appointment and appointed as professor. He is a member of several scientific societies (e.g. GA ), prize-winner of scientific awards (e.g. Ernst Scheurich Preis, 1982; Sebastina Kneipp Preis, 2008), author and co-editor of several scientific books on phytotherapy and phytopharmacy (e.g. Hagers Enzyklopädie der Arzneistoffe und Drogen, Hunnius). In 1991 and 1995 he has been a chair at the University of Berlin and Marburg, respectively. Fields of scientific activity: phytopharmaceuticals; phytotherapy; molecular pharmacognosy and phytopharmacy; secondary metabolites (e.g. essential oils) and plant extracts with antibacterial, antimycotic, antiviral, antiproliferative and apoptosis-inducing activity; penetration and permeation of essential oils across human skin.
