Aromatherapy Awareness Week
Aromatherapy Awareness Week is an annual national campaign hosted by the International Federation of Aromatherapists (IFA) to raise awareness of the clinical benefits of aromatherapy. Held in the second week of June, it seeks to educate the public about the difference aromatherapy can make to your life and the lives of people in your care. The campaign is brought to life by a multitude of individuals and companies who come together to organise events and activities throughout the UK, drawing attention to the important role aromatherapy has in healthcare management.
The therapeutic benefits of essential oils have been known since ancient times and have been successfully used by medical practitioners in other European countries since the early 20th Century. Since 1985 the IFA has been heavily involved in research in the UK and there is now a strong body of evidence which supports the therapeutic benefits of clinical aromatherapy with a variety of conditions. Over the last thirty years, the IFA has pioneered aromatherapy in the NHS, hospices and hospitals and is the reason why many therapists are working in collaboration with the medical profession today.
The 'Awareness' campaign is a unique opportunity for all clinical aromatherapists and service suppliers in the industry to do something pro-active to raise the profile of the health benefits of aromatherapy. Whether you send a tweet, run an event, contact your local media, or have your own ideas, there are all kinds of ways you can help to raise the profile of aromatherapy in the media and in your local community. This year's dates are 08th - 14th June 2020. Save the dates in your diary.
Excitedly, this year also coincides with the International Year of Plant Health. The United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution declaring 2020 as the International Year of Plant Health, as plant health is important for everyone and we're eager to read about the research that will be presented this year from all over the world. On our website you can find lots of information under ‘get involved’ in how to structure and submit your patient reported outcome data to add to our bank to be put before leading authorities in health and social care.
The IFA realises that therapists often need encouragement and support to get involved in press and publicity campaigns and the IFA PR team have formulated a professional support package to give you the confidence to speak with a collective and informed voice to any sector of the community.
