Aromacare Celebration Day at Knowsley Feelgood Festival
Since the IFA launched its Aromacare course in 2008, its outreach has extended beyond all expectations, and it is now taught all over the world. But, in the North West of England, the Aromacare course has been cleverly integrated into various district council care programmes in Merseyside. These include oncology departments, ICU, the voluntary sector, hospices, hospitals special care units, residential care homes, autism support groups, as well as private practice for carers at home. As a result of the large number of carers and recipients who have benefitted from this course, and the continued sponsorship by Knowlsey Council and Everton Football club, an IFA Aromacare Celebration Day was held on 5th August 2019 at the Knowsley Feelgood Festival in order to mark the impact that Aromacare has had on these very special communities.
Out of gratitude to the IFA and Knowsley Council, the Aromacare postgraduates in Merseyside were keen to encourage awareness of this course at the Feelgood Festival on 5th August. The Festival is held for one day each summer, at which Knowsley Borough Council and partnership agencies, such as the NHS, work hard to improve the health and wellbeing throughout the area. The Feelgood Festival is a well-attended and important event for the community, combining fun activities and professional advice in order to promote physical, mental and emotional health and well-being through a variety of activities.
The organisers of the festival very kindly donated a double stall for the day, enabling a team of Knowsley's IFA Aromacare volunteers to provide massages and information about the safe and effective use of essential oils. As the organisation that pioneered the course, the IFA have already sponsored more than ten mothers with disabled children to become Aromacarers themselves, and continue to sponsor equipment to support the volunteer practitioners in their work. Marie Wayte, Chair of the IFA, has expressed the IFA's heartfelt gratitude to all those involved in making the Aromacare course such a success in the Merseyside area, and states that she "hopes that this success can be carried over into other areas of the country".
About the International Federation of Aromatherapist Aromacare Course:
The IFA Aromacare Carer’s Certificate course is designed to develop knowledge and understanding of aromatherapy, and provides the learner with the skills to provide therapeutic treatments to incorporate into existing care regimes. It is a practical, hands-on course, teaching learners about touch and massage to communicate caring and understanding with the elderly, children and as a means of stress relief for those who have prohibitive physical and mental conditions. It enables carers to add a new dimension to their clinical care and provides learners with a myriad of skills to safely and effectively apply and experience essential oils for those who, for whatever reasons, are unable to tolerate a standard massage on a couch or the more invasive therapies. Carers will learn there is much that specific essential oils can do to support the path to rehabilitation and wellness and also as a means of self-care. Whether the person in your care is verbal or non-verbal, Aromacare conveys a new channel of communication by way of light touch, inhalation and creating a soothing and nurturing ambience.
