Please note this guidance is for currently registered IFA practitioners. IFA registrants are permitted to work during the pandemic with conditions and are being prioritised for the vaccine, which is reflected in our guidelines and supportive resources. If you are not registered with the IFA you may not be allowed to practice and will be advised to contact your own chosen governing body or provided with details on how to meet the standards to become IFA registered.
Our practitioners have played an important role, in supporting the health and wellbeing of people, including NHS frontline workers themselves, during the Covid 19 pandemic where appropriate. The following advice applies to IFA registrants only, split by region and will help you to follow the government guidance of your country on returning to work and working safely during the coronavirus pandemic:
IFA Registered practitioners in England are able to work during the pandemic and is permitted by government regulations, confirmed by The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), as the IFA is an accredited register approved by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA), a UK body accountable to parliament. This provides additional assurance that IFA registrants meet UK wide standards of patient safety and service quality and meet the definition of “other…health services, including services relating to mental health” contained in Section 17(o), Schedule 3A of The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (All Tiers) (England) Regulations 2020. So, if any of your clients are a little nervous about coming to see you during these uncertain times, you can tell them that you are IFA registered and explain what that means in terms of safety and high standards of care.
As of 12th April 2021 practitioners can accept and receive clients as normal.
Whether you choose to return to work, or not, will very much be your own decision based on your personal circumstances, your client type(s), where you work from and whether working puts you, your clients or anyone in your family or home at risk. You must exercise the utmost caution and exercise your professional judgement in assessing the risks. The First Minister announced from 26 April 2021 mainland Scotland and the Isle of Skye has been dropped to a ‘modified’ Level 3 and the travel ban lifted, which means all IFA Registrants in Scotland may return to work. The First Minister has announced that subject to review close contact services can reopen on the 12th April 2021 without requiring referal by a General Practitioner or hospital consultan.
